Thank you to everyone who submitted. We hope to see your work next year as well!
We are only accepting DIGITAL submissions this year. All submissions should be emailed to [email protected]. Writing should also be shared on a Google Doc, and artwork should be high resolution. We would appreciate it if you turned on link-sharing as well because it would be more convenient for our staff to access it. You can ask Ms. Seelaus or Mr. Stallings if you can use the equipment in the art room to scan pieces or take good quality photos. You may ask to borrow a camera, but most smartphones are fine for taking pictures.
There is a LIMIT of 3 art submissions and 3 writing submissions per person. All submissions must be accompanied with (1) the name of the piece, (2) the name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the magazine with your work (please indicate if you wish to remain anonymous), and (3) an email you check regularly, in case we need to contact you.
Please email us if you have any questions!
DISCLAIMER: Submission of multiple pieces does not guarantee that your work will appear in the magazine.

What We Look For
The Fine Print staff enjoys reviewing all submissions. However, we only include high quality pieces in the magazine to be appreciated by all faculty and staff and the student body. To set you up for success, we have endeavored to provide you with some guidelines we use to evaluate all submissions. Please consider these guidelines as you submit your writing or artwork to Fine Print.
WRITING
We expect all writing to be well-organized, coherent, and have a clear message or goal. Writing should follow general grammatical rules (periods, commas, capitalization), unless violation of these rules is strategically used as part of the author's message. We may contact authors and ask if they would approve any grammatical or syntax-related edits we make to their works, if we are really interested in having the piece in the magazine. However, we often reject works that have potential but are not clearly organized and have glaring grammatical issues. We also discuss how compelling or effective the author's message is. Is the topic interesting or relevant? Does the writing grasp the attention of the audience and elicit strong emotion? Is it organized in a way that is conductive to understanding? Does it convey the message the author intended for it to convey? To better answer these questions for yourself, you may consider reading your submission out loud, and think about whether your writing flows well as you do so. This is how we evaluate writing submissions.
ART
Artists can submit a wide variety of artwork, including digital art, 3D art, and photography. Some of the following criteria may be applicable to some media, but not to others: All submitted artwork should be completed. In general, when looking at artwork, we evaluate traditional artistic elements, such as composition, value, contrast, etc. Ask yourself if you employed all of these elements, or if you could apply some of them to make your artwork more dynamic and interesting. We also consider creativity and ingenuity. Putting a creative twist on something ordinary earns you bonus points, although even if your work isn't amazingly creative, we'll accept it if it's well-executed.
ALSO...
We know that the definition of "good" writing and artwork is subjective. When we evaluate your submissions, we try and give everyone a fair chance by having open discussion about the merits and faults of each piece. Please keep this in mind as you submit your work to Fine Print. We look forward to seeing your submissions in our next edition!
